Bio
Born in Iowa and moving throughout the Midwest, I have sketched and painted since childhood. Initially drawing inspiration from comic books and old pulp illustrations, my current painting styles developed during my time at Otterbein College in Westerville, OH.
Studying with the excellent faculty at Otterbein I focused on printmaking and was exposed to the wider world of fine art, taking cues from the structural compositions of Charles Sheeler and the reproduction art of Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol. My time at Otterbein also found me exploring New York City on an internship and being further influenced by the patterns formed by buildings and the graffiti-stencil culture of the Lower East Side.
After college I moved to Columbus, OH where I exhibited works in small exhibitions and developed arts-interventions for students with disabilities, eventually pursuing a degree in special education. In 2006 I moved to Brooklyn, NY where I taught and painted, exhibiting in small venues in and around the Crown Heights neighborhood.
After receiving a masters degree in working with students with disabiliaties, I again re-located in 2009 to Cleveland Heights, OH, again exhibiting and helping to develop and expand the arts culture as part of the Rebel Salmon Arts Collective.
Most recently I have returned to my old stomping grounds in Columbus. I'm happy to be making trouble and art as the mood suits me here in the capital city.
