The Watermark Series
Inspired by a dirty coffee table, this series began by mimicking the random watermarks from the bottom of cups. I was fascinated by the patterns originally caused by a lack of coasters and began trying to use coffee and different variations of the liquid circles to create abstract compositions. Each piece is unique as the color and gradient vary according to type and strength of the coffee, the time each cup is left to linger on the canvas, and the size and density of the rings. True to its humble origins, the paintings are still created with brewed coffee and Styrofoam cups. Available by commission, the works can be crafted in a variety of sizes to fit an existing room or to create a centerpiece for a new ambiance.
